Short Bio

Austin Abstract Artist

Statement

Austin abstract artist who enjoys photographing landscapes, longhorns, and off-the-beaten-path road signs. Abstract Artists like Pollock, Rothko, Matisse, Kooning and Kandinksy, and the colorful pop art of Peter Max are influences. I am fascinated with shapes, color, and movement of color on the canvas. "I love texture, drip and lots of layers. My larger abstracts can take weeks to complete." Most of my work centers around an impressionistic Texas Longhorn amid a chaotic atmosphere. Parts of the longhorn will be camouflaged within the abstract. Using bold color and exaggerated form allows me to place the subject matter in an edgy, fun ambiance. I typically work with Golden acrylics as well as Sennelier for large abstract pieces. For my Texas landscapes, I use Vasari and/or Old Holland oils. On occasion, gold leaf will be incorporated.

I paint both en-plein-air and in-studio works of art based on my own photography and memories. Austin, Texas is home. I continue to advance my education by participating in workshops.

All my paintings come with a signed and dated certificate of authenticity. Hanging hardware attached.

Biography

Born in Oklahoma, Carrie was raised in the country on 5-acres among towering cattails, plentiful wildlife and big skies. As a child, she had a rich imagination fueled from boredom in the boonies. She created amusing stories about magical fairies and time travel. In junior high, she played basketball, ran track, and was a member of the pom-pom squad. Carrie earned her BA from The University of Oklahoma and studied screenwriting and creative writing in fiction from UCLA. Carrie has always been creative. In her earlier years, she dabbled in acting in Hollywood for TV and film. Upon her return to Texas, she freelanced as a make-up artist for a Miss Texas and Texas Teen pageant and various runway modeling shows. She freelanced as a magazine writer for Austin Monthly, turning in stores about Texas travel and entertainment artists. She created one-of-a-kind upcycled photo albums that were gifted backstage at the Country Music Awards and penned a children's high-adventure fantasy novel, available on Amazon. She enjoys painting on canvas and on quality linen paper. Her grandmother was an award-winning landscape oil painter from West Texas who instilled a deep appreciation for oil landscapes. Carrie paints nothing like her grandmother.
